10 Ways to Make the Most of a Press Release

Ah, the press release. Some see it as a necessary evil. Some view it as the key to a business boom. To me, a media release forces a business owner to think about what news is happening (or is about to happen) and spread the word about it.

Once you have your press release and you have shared it with your media list, you may think that’s it – just toss that press release in the trash. Not so fast – there is still plenty of marketing juice to wring from that release!

Maximize Your Press Release

  • Edit the release down to a paragraph and post it on your website.
  • Then edit that paragraph down to a few leading sentences and use the copy in your next newsletter (linking to your website post).
  • Rework the release to post it on community posting sites (local newspapers and websites).
  • Rewrite the release to use it as a blog post.
  • Look at your headline (it should have your primary keyword in it) and post that and a link to your website post or blog post on your social media networks.
  • Use your keyword as your hashtag.
  • Did you include a photo or infographic with your release? Share it on your social media networks.
  • Share the release with your employees – they are your best ambassadors.
  • Turn your photo and key points from the release into an advertisement.
  • Depending on the content, you can convert the press release into an op-ed piece.

You took the time to write and pitch the release (or hire someone to do that), now use that press release again and again.
